On the 28th April 1883 a meeting was called by a local tobacconist and fishing tackle dealer. This meeting
took place in the market room of the 'Three Pigeons' public house in Guildford, Surrey.
Gentlemen anglers were invited to the meeting to discuss the formation of an angling club which would be called 'The Guildford Angling Society'. The meeting was very successful and on the 1st May 1883 the first committee was elected. On the 8th May the first AGM was held and the Society's rules were established.
Today Guildford Angling Society has over 300 members with an age range from 8 to 80!
